Group B of Campus Legends’ Valorant tournament has drawn to a close with only four teams progressing to the next stage: Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s (NP) Bring Back MEL, Republic Polytechnic’s (RP) LEO3.0, Singapore University of Technology and Design’s (SUTD) heretohavefun and Singapore Institute of Management’s (SIM) Revivme. Let’s take a look at the performances of each team so far.
NP / Bring Back MEL
Topping the group is Bring Back Mel, who went undefeated to secure themselves a spot in the Playoffs stage. With Alvin “AVM alfin” Ong leading the team, the NP representatives steadily ramped up as they breezed through the upper bracket. They put on an impressive showing in Week 2, pulling off convincing 2 – 0 victories in both the semi-finals and the finals over RP.
Now that Bring Back Mel has proven that they can stand amongst the best, they will need to maintain this form to contend with the other challengers from Group A.
RP / LEO3.0
Coming into the tournament, LEO3.0 looked strong, sweeping aside SIM and ITE CW to stake their claim in the semi-finals of the group. However, they struggled against NP. Valiant efforts by Ng “Xondd” Yu Xuan and Reagan “BLEED Reagzy” Thun were for naught as the RP representatives were decisively beaten in both the semi-finals and the finals.
Yet, the individual mechanics of the RP players cannot be discounted and LEO3.0 are likely to looking to take the sting out of their losses with their future games.
SUTD / heretohavefun
Despite their name, the SUTD line-up proved that they were here to play. An unfortunate loss to NP in their opening game failed to faze them and heretohavefun quickly bounced back, beating out ITE CW and SIM.
However, their gauntlet run was ended in the losers’ bracket finals by RP, resulting in a commendable third place finish. While heretohavefun impressed with their individual mechanics, they will need to be wary of the strong performances from the other qualifying teams if they want to be the next legends.
SIM / Revivme
Revivme stumbled early, losing their first match to RP and dropping to the lower bracket. Despite this early setback, the SIM line-up recovered quickly, edging out Kaplan to lock in a place in the Playoffs stage. After suffering another defeat at the hands of SUTD, Revivme ended the group with a 2 – 2 record.
Given the calibre of their competitors, the team still has a way to go if they wish to contest for the championship.
